We are excited to announce the events taking place this spring!
Eat Local Eden Prairie Fair - April 18, 2010 We will be holding the fair at the Eden Prairie Community Center from 1-4 p.m. This event will be free to the public! We are inviting local farmers, organizations promoting sustainable agriculture, restaurants featuring local food, and organizations that educate the public on how to find local food and why it's an important facet of our economy and community.
Animal, Vegetable, Dairy Panel Discussion - April 19, 2010 This interesting event will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie with book discussions starting at 6:30 and the panel discussion beginning at 7:30 p.m. The panel discussion features Catherine Friend, author of The Compassionate Carnivore speaking on local animal farming, Carrie Marshall from Eden Prairie's own Marshall's Farm speaking on vegetable farming issues, and the Minars, owners of Cedar Summit Dairy, speaking on dairy farming issues. We hope to see you there for a fabulous and interesting evening.
Eat Local Essay Contest We invite students and adults to enter the Eat Local Essay Contest! There are four divisions: grades 4-6, grades 7-8, grades 9-12 and adult. The prize for each division is $50. For details, please download the Essay Contest Rules.

Debunking the Myths of Healthy Eating
Local chef David Fhima will be offering a session on Thursday, April 22 (Earth Day!) from 7-9 p.m. at the Lifetime Fitness Eden Prairie restaurant Zahtar (755 Prairie Ctr Drive, Eden Prairie, MN 55344) on cooking with local foods and healthy eating choices. Registration is required. Room for thirty people only, so sign up soon. Free and open to the public! Learn to use them in salads, sandwiches, sides or snacks; how to make or enhance a dessert with them and how to flavor pasta and rice dishes. Master Gardener: Container Gardening
Saturday, March 20, 11 a.m.
Container gardening allows you to add color to your garden, deck or front steps with limited time commitment. Learn to select containers, a good potting mix, ideal plants and how to care for these beautiful mini gardens.

Master Gardener: Beginning Vegetable Gardening

Basics of vegetable gardening: site selection, soil preparation, terrain features, planting, upkeep, fertilizers, common pests, diseases, techniques to reduce the need for pesticides, as well as how to garden in small spaces.

Master Gardener: Advanced Vegetable Gardening
Saturday, April 10, 11 a.m.
Learn how to read seed packets and plant tags, when to plant cool- and warm-season vegetables, which fertilizers work best for growth and production, and how intercropping and successive plantings of common vegetables help utilize available garden space.

Master Gardener: Small Space Vegetable Gardening
Saturday, April 24, 11 a.m.
You can create highly productive flower and vegetable gardens in small spaces. Learn to plan your space, use trellises, containers, wide-row or square-row, rounded beds and raised beds.
